Our Story
La Pasta Delizia was founded in 1995 and was the dream of a ‘crazy’ young Italian who fell in love with pasta that could only be made in his mother’s kitchen. She on the other hand was only prepared to cook for family and friends.
“Enough is enough… I cook all day and then I bake all weekend… No more! Basta! What do you want of me? You want me to be your slave? You want me to die over the stove? “said Mama Germira.
Sergio Lorenzato, being a very social entrepreneur and eager to share his culture with his South African friends (everything starts with a good plate of pasta!), decided to go about it a different way. Mamma could supply the recipes and advice, and he would show her what he could do!
So, he talked to two friends who were in the restaurant business – another Italian named Gianfranco and Chris the Greek – and presto, La Pasta Delizia was born!
La Pasta Delizia started in Wynberg Johannesburg, making only a few varieties of Pasta. Later, we expanded with a couple of small machines to introduce a few lines of short, long pasta and filled pasta. Our customer base kept growing and became steadily more demanding as they found our team eager to experiment with different tastes.
In 2005, we moved to bigger premises in Orange Grove Johannesburg, where bigger manufacturing machines and dryers were installed. The building was purchased to house further expansion, without any disruption in manufacturing.
La Pasta Delizia does not use any preservatives or by-products in the manufacturing of our pasta products; our pasta is made with WHEAT SEMOLINA. We guarantee quality and freshness in all our products. Our gluten-free products are made from rice flour & Corn and is produced on demand for our customers
Supporting a healthy diet through exceptionally flavoured and nutritionally balanced products, La Pasta Delizia has become renowned for our exceptional quality – the result of large-scale investment in research, innovation and technology – as well as our constant communication with clients.
The goal was to produce great quality pasta, just like Mama. After all, she was watching! Traditional recipes were maintained (Mama was busy tasting), yet creative and lifestyle changes over the years have ensured that La Pasta Delizia’s products are innovative and convenient, yet always traditionally Italian.
Friends and family became customers and as the social circle broadened so did the rest of the rainbow nation. Initially this was a retail “fresh pasta factory” to the general public, but it soon expanded by adding a food processing facility, providing creative and innovative recipe items for the foodservice industry.
